"Amy is both an illustrator and a ceramicist, her white plates serve as a backdrop to humorous and stylised drawings of stamps, thrones, carriages and Buckingham Palace, creating a warm-hearted story of celebration. Her illustrations always bring a smile to viewers’ faces, a beautiful way to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee with a difference."

Hothouse 2012

I am delighted to have been asked to take part in Hothouse 2012 as a "buddy" with Nottingham based ceramicist Anna Hunt.

Hothouse is a unique programme of support from the Crafts Council for emerging makers, the buddy programme has been developed as a new framework of peer support. The Crafts Council and its partners match the participants with a relevant peer "buddy" from the sector to share experiences of when you were very first starting out and setting up a practice and offer support and advice. I am very much looking forward to working with Anna over the coming months.

British Ceramics Biennial 2011

 "Stick Up"

As part of the BCB, Manifold will be collaborating with studio artists from Stoke-on-Trent's AirSpace Gallery to make body of works within a restricted time period. Studio and Gallery Artists will pair off intending to instigate an element of risk for both the artists and curators, both sets being removed from their comfort zones, using different methods and mediums, working towards a challenging resolution.

The focus of the project is the exchange between two types of working methods, skill sets and knowledge. The outcome of these investigations is unpredictable and will develop organically over an intensive three-day period leading up to the opening of the exhibition, which explores a newfound relationship between Ceramics and Contemporary Art.

I am excited to be working with AirSpace Artist and RedNile Project founding member Janine Goldsworthy, watch this space for images of what we get upto or even better come and see us! 30 September-13 November.

Manifold is a group of nine artists and designers 2010 MA graduates from the Royal College of Art. Individually, Manifold's activities span sculpture, installation, digital art, process-driven product design, drawing, research, teaching, collaboration and progressive approaches to age-old crafts such as glass-blowing, hand-built ceramics and enamel painting. These diverse and often disparate practices have grown up alongside each other within the studios at the RCA. Shared knowledge and the power of the group are the pillars of Manifold's new HQ.

To celebrate the launch of our exciting venture we would love you to join us for a look around, food & drink and live music.

Show One

SHOW ONE: 28 May - 6 June, 11am-8pm daily, admission free
Ceramics & Glass in the Henry Moore Galleries, Royal College of Art, London.

"Amy Hughes re-working of French eighteenth century decorative wares from Sevres uses the hand of the maker to bring honesty and provenance to a genre of objects whose perfection, although revealing a mastery of technique, could be seen as cold and impenetrable. Her pieces, covered in obvious fingerprints, satirise the excess of the originals and provide a conduit to the discussion of taste and quality."
-Tim Parsons, Designer. Eighteen Proposals C&G Show Publication 2010.

Come and see the final MA show featuring work by students from the Applied Art School, Ceramics & Glass, Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery, along with the Fine Art courses of Photography and Printmaking. Visit www.rca.ac.uk for more info!
